The JBL Tour Pro 3 are the best-equipped flagship earbuds in the true wireless class: SoundGuys measured MDAQS 4.3+ sound and 8h17m of ANC-on battery, and the 1.57-inch smart case streams audio from any wired source. ANC lands a notch below Bose and Sony's best, and the case is bulky. Check the current price on Amazon.
— THE VERDICT · JUDGEANY EDITORSWhat the Tour Pro 3 are
The Tour Pro 3 are JBL's 2024 flagship true wireless earbuds, announced on August 21, 2024. Each bud carries a 10.2mm dynamic driver for bass and mids alongside a 5.1 x 2.8mm balanced armature for highs, six microphones feeding True Adaptive Noise Cancelling 2.0, Bluetooth 5.3 with SBC, AAC, LDAC and LC3, multipoint, IP55, and a 5.6-gram body. JBL rates battery at 8 hours per bud with ANC on (32 hours total with the case) or 11/44 with ANC off, and a 10-minute charge is good for 3 hours. The case is what sets this product apart: a 1.57-inch touchscreen Smart Charging Case that controls playback, EQ and ANC without your phone, transmits audio from any 3.5mm or USB-C source, acts as an Auracast source, and charges wirelessly. Everything below comes from published reviews and owner reports. JudgeAny runs no lab and measured nothing ourselves.
Sound and codecs
Measured sound quality is the strongest evidence in JBL's favor. SoundGuys tested the Tour Pro 3 over three days on firmware 3.9.0, and its MDAQS listener panel scored timbre, distortion and immersiveness all at 4.3 or higher out of 5, a result the site calls uncommonly good at any price point. What Hi-Fi described the sound as solid and engaging. LDAC unlocks hi-res detail on Android, where SoundGuys notes the dual-driver split (dynamic driver for lows, balanced armature for highs) delivers clean, well-defined separation. One caveat belongs to iPhone owners: they get AAC only, so the hi-res story is Android-only.
Noise cancelling
This is where the evidence splits. SoundGuys measured about 83-84% of outside noise hushed away with ANC at full, calling the cancellation very good and praising transparency mode as head and shoulders above many rivals. TechRadar's reviewer felt it differently: despite a passing fit test, the cocooned silence never arrived, and the site calls the ANC good rather than excellent, not at the level of the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds or AirPods Pro 2. NotebookCheck's long-term testing lands between the two, reporting effective ANC on airplanes and while cycling into headwinds. Seal is the likely explanation for the gap: the measurements confirm strong low-frequency reduction, but TechRadar's experience shows the real-world result can fall a half-step below the class leaders. The seven-step ANC slider and Adaptive ANC help in changing environments.
The smart case
The Smart Charging Case is the feature no rival copies well. SoundGuys calls the case-as-transmitter its favorite capability: plug the included USB-C-to-3.5mm cable into an airplane entertainment system or a non-smart TV and the case streams the audio to your buds in LC3 quality, something impossible with most true wireless earbuds. The 1.57-inch touchscreen replaces the phone for playback, ANC, EQ and volume, doubles as an Auracast broadcast source, and InsideHook notes extras like a built-in flashlight and a Find My tone through the case speaker. Owners' complaints cluster here too. One Best Buy reviewer hung up calls repeatedly because the touchscreen stays active in a pocket, and at 71.8 grams the case is the bulkiest in its class.
Calls, battery and the app
Call quality tested well in the lab. SoundGuys ran standardized mic samples across ideal, office, street, windy and reverberant conditions, finding the Tour Pro 3 excellent at removing office noise, street sounds and wind, though it struggles a little with echoes. NotebookCheck confirmed clear calls even in strong headwinds. Battery beat the rating: SoundGuys measured 8 hours 17 minutes with ANC on against JBL's 8-hour claim. The JBL Headphones app adds a 10-band EQ, Personi-Fi 3.0 personalization, JBL Spatial 360 with head tracking, an ear-tip fit test, and TalkThru. InsideHook ranks the spatial effect a notch below Apple and Sony but puts the overall sound in the top quarter of the premium buds it has tried.
Who should buy them
Buy the Tour Pro 3 if you want the most feature-dense flagship earbuds available and travel with sources that have no Bluetooth. The case-as-transmitter earns its keep on planes, and the measured sound and battery are excellent. Frequent flyers, office workers and Android owners with hi-res libraries are the natural audience. Skip them if ANC is your top priority: the measurements say very good, the subjective comparisons say a notch below the class leaders. Skip them too if pocketability matters, because the smart case is the bulkiest in its class, and JBL's own Live Beam 3 packs many of the same features at a much lower price.
